The NIAH (National Inventory of Architectural Heritage) is an important record of buildings and structures whose significance has been recognised but in most cases cannot be afforded full protection under the Planning Acts.

We were contracted to undertake a review of 300 entries in the original survey in west Donegal and ascertain what improvements or decline had occurred in the intervening years.

This work brought us deep into the County, its western coastline, and on to its spectacular Islands, reminding us of the distinct and unique character  of our built landscape and its context.

While there is decline and decay, there are projects that have survived authentically through the determination and love shown them by owners and Donegal County Council, who continue to help owners overcome costs of repair and maintenance through the various Grant schemes they provide.
